Drive Evalset Desk from your own code

The page does its free work in the browser: it reads one pasted eval run - CSV, TSV, JSONL, a JSON array or a Markdown table - numbers every row (R1..), computes every metric (M1..) with a 95% interval, pairs the candidate against the baseline (wins, regressions, an exact sign test), measures Cohen's kappa, splits the result by slice, and raises its findings (EV-01..). Its two paid lanes are available over HTTP. You send one JSON object with task set to "verdict" or "judge", and the model replies with one JSON object. The easiest way to build the results and facts strings is the page itself: EvalKit.buildInput(lane, EvalKit.analyze(text, {app, decision, gate, claim, kind}), {handoff}) in evalkit.js, which also runs under Node.

Base URL: https://api.skillsafe.ai/v1/app-api. Every call sends Content-Type: application/json and, once you have a token, Authorization: Bearer <token>. Both lanes run on gpt-terra with a 10% publisher markup. A run needs a signed-in (user) token and is metered: the platform holds the estimate's hold_credits while the run is in flight and then charges only what it used (charged_credits). /estimate is free. A plain-text summary is at /llms.txt.

The response envelope

Every response is {"data": ..., "error": null} on success or {"data": null, "error": {"code", "message"}} on failure.

Error codes

HTTPcodemeaning
400VALIDATION_ERRORThe body is not a JSON object, or a field is the wrong type. Every field of the run input is a string.
401UNAUTHORIZEDNo token, or an expired one: get a new one (step 2).
402INSUFFICIENT_CREDITSThe balance is below the run's minimum. Top up at skillsafe.ai/account/billing/.
403FORBIDDENA guest token tried a metered run: sign in for a personal token.
404NOT_FOUNDUnknown job id.
429RATE_LIMITEDBack off and retry with the same Idempotency-Key.

The task field: two lanes

taskwhat the model does
"verdict"What the run supports: ship, hold or fix the eval first; one answer per page finding (confirmed or disputed, the counted ones confirmed); 2-6 metrics read with their values exactly the page's; failure modes grouping the failing rows; every regression with what changed; gaps in the eval set; 1-5 next steps.
"judge"The LLM-as-judge for the feature: the mode (pointwise, pairwise, reference-based or reference-free); 3-6 criteria with weights summing to 100, a pass and a fail test each; the complete judge prompt; 4-8 calibration rows with the grade a correct judge must give; 3-6 new cases; 1-4 ship bars. With verdict_handoff every failure mode it names gets a criterion.

Input fields (all strings)

fieldwhencontent
taskrequiredverdict or judge
appoptionalWhat the LLM feature does, one line.
decisionoptionalWhat you want to decide.
gateoptionalYour ship bar; a percentage in it, and "no regressions", are checked by the page.
claimoptionalWhat someone claims the run shows; every percentage in it is checked against the rows.
resultsrequiredA Markdown table of the rows sent: row (the R id), the mapped columns, and page (pass or fail by the primary metric, with the baseline's). The page sends up to 48 rows - every regression first, then failing rows, then others - with cells over 280 characters cut and marked.
factsrequiredA JSON string: app, decision, gate, claim, kind, format, columns, rows, primary{id, name, value, ci, n}, metrics[{id, name, value, ci, n}], classes[], confusion[], compare{n, wins[], losses[], wins_count, losses_count, ties, baseline_rate, candidate_rate, change, change_ci, sign_test_p}, agreement[{what, n, agreement, kappa, disagreeing_rows[]}], slices[{slice, n, rate}], findings[{id, kind, severity, text, rows[], metrics[], values[]}], sent{rows[], of, note}, notes[].
verdict_handoffjudge, optionalA JSON string of the verdict the judge follows: verdict, headline, failure_modes[{id, mode, rows[], slice}], regressions[], gaps[], next_steps[].
retry_noteoptionalOnly on a reformat retry: what was wrong with the previous reply.

The reply contracts

Both lanes share an envelope: task, task_note, headline (with a figure from the run), questions[], summary.

task: "verdict"

verdict (ship|hold|fix the eval first), verdict_why, findings[{finding, response: confirmed|disputed, note}] (one per page finding, in order), metrics_read[{metric, value, reading}] (2-6, the primary first), failure_modes[{mode, rows[], slice, why}] (0-5), regressions[{row, note}], gaps[{gap, fix}] (0-4), next_steps[] (1-5).

task: "judge"

source (verdict handoff|from the input), mode (pointwise|pairwise|reference-based|reference-free), mode_why, criteria[{name, weight, pass, fail, targets[]}] (3-6, weights summing to 100), judge_prompt (with {input}, {output} and, by mode, {reference} or {output_a}/{output_b}), calibration[{row, grade: pass|fail, why}] (4-8), new_cases[{input, expected, covers}] (3-6), thresholds[{metric, bar}] (1-4).

Worked examples

These are the page's own bundled examples (invented products and rows), with the input as app.js builds it and the saved model reply the page replays for free: a verdict on a ticket router's prompt change, a verdict on a judge-scored summary prompt and its judge design after the handoff, and a judge design for an HR policy assistant.

The page re-checks the reply; the API does not

The page holds every reply to account (recon.js). For a verdict: one of ship, hold or fix the eval first, never ship while a high finding stands, and fix the eval first when a high low-agreement finding stands; one answer per page finding, in order, the counted ones (claim, gate, regression, duplicate, empty-output, no-reference) confirmed; 2-6 metrics read, the primary first, each value the page's own; failure modes citing 1-8 failing rows; every regression sent listed and nothing else; 1-5 next steps. For a judge: the source as sent; a mode the columns support; 3-6 criteria with weights summing to 100, every handed-over failure mode targeted; a judge prompt with its placeholders, every criterion named and a JSON reply asked for; 4-8 calibration rows with both grades, matching the human rater or the label; 3-6 new cases repeating no existing input; 1-4 ship bars. In both, the headline carries a figure, every row, metric and finding id must be one the page sent, and no figure the rows or the page's scoring do not contain may appear (rounding allowed; proposed ship bars excepted). Over the API you get the model's reply as it is; run the same checks yourself with Recon.reconcile in recon.js, or paste the same input into the page.

Step 1 — a tiny client helper

One function that sends JSON and unwraps the envelope.

BASE="https://api.skillsafe.ai/v1/app-api"
TOKEN="paste-your-token-here"   # from https://evalset-desk.skillsafe.ai/tokens.html
api() { # api METHOD PATH [JSON-BODY]
  curl -s -X "$1" "$BASE$2" -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
    ${TOKEN:+-H "Authorization: Bearer $TOKEN"} ${3:+--data "$3"}
}

Step 2 — a token

A guest token is enough for /me and /estimate. A run is metered, so it needs a personal token: sign in on /tokens.html and copy it from there.

# a guest token (enough for /me and /estimate); a run needs your personal token from /tokens.html
TOKEN=$(curl -s -X POST "$BASE/guest" -H "Content-Type: application/json" -d '{"slug":"evalset-desk"}' | jq -r '.data.token')

Step 3 — GET /me

Who the token is (subject_type: user or guest) and the credit balance.

api GET /me | jq '.data | {subject_type, credits}'

Step 4 — POST /estimate

Free. The body is the run input itself (not wrapped in {"input": ...}). hold_credits is a reservation, not the price; min_credits is what the balance must cover; model reads gpt-5.6-terra and model_alias gpt-terra.

# input.json: the run input object - {"task": "verdict", "app": "...", "decision": "...", "gate": "...", "claim": "...", "results": "...", "facts": "..."}
api POST /estimate "$(cat input.json)" | jq '.data | {hold_credits, min_credits, model, model_alias, markup_bps, warnings}'

Step 5 — POST /run, then poll the job

Send an Idempotency-Key built from the lane and the input: a retry with the same key never bills twice. The page uses evalset-desk:<lane>:<inputHash>:a<attempt>. The job's output.output is the reply text; truncated: true means the balance cut it short.

KEY="evalset-desk:verdict:$(shasum -a 256 input.json | cut -c1-16):a1"
JOB=$(curl -s -X POST "$BASE/run" -H "Content-Type: application/json" -H "Authorization: Bearer $TOKEN" \
  -H "Idempotency-Key: $KEY" --data @input.json | jq -r '.data.job_id')
while :; do
  J=$(api GET "/jobs/$JOB"); S=$(echo "$J" | jq -r '.data.status')
  case "$S" in succeeded|failed|cancelled) break;; esac; sleep 2
